The Nativity scenes have moved away from the conventional model. The Virgin Mary is represented as Mother, in various moments of everyday life. We see her leaning on Joseph’s shoulder, as she places his hand on her tummy to feel the baby move inside her. We find her with a bowls in one hand as she plays with her Son and Husband. The strange-looking Magi sometimes follow the Holy Family, mounted on camels or horses, and on elephants, buffalo and zebu. Mary is always the dominant figure, and motherhood is her triumph as a woman, aside from her divine nature. Other Nativities are found on the circle of painted panels.
